Brisbane, Byron Bay & The Gold Coast (Australia)

Welcome to Queensland, where the sun rises over the Great Barrier Reef and sets across the rugged landscape of the Australian outback. From remote outback Birdsville in the South-West, to the dense tropics of Port Douglas, Queensland truly has something for everyone...

Where is The Gold Coast & Byron Bay?

The Gold Coast is just an hour south of Brisbane (about 100kms). Another hour south is Byron Bay (about 80kms south of Coolangatta Airport).

Perfect for a week of sun, surf and good times, South-East Queensland and the North-East Corner of NSW is a tropical paradise with plenty to see and do.

Queensland is Australia’s second largest state, after Western Australia so getting around this vast state is better when you have a cheap rental vehicle from us. It’s a diverse state, ranging from the white sandy beaches of the South East to the tropics of the North, and out to the Great Dividing Range and sparse landscape of the Australian outback toward the Northern Territory.

Known as the Sunshine State of Australia, Queensland temperatures range from sub-tropical to tropical depending on the location. In Queensland especially, it is very important to protect your skin from the exposure of the sun with protective clothing, a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen during the hottest part of the day.

Queensland’s summer starts in December with temperatures hovering around 30 degrees Celsius, although it isn’t uncommon for the temperature to go above this especially further north. Winter in the Southern Hemisphere commences in June, and Queensland averages temperatures of around 15 to 20 degrees Celsius. Only on rare occasions does the temperature drop on or below 1 degree Celsius in regional parts of Queensland.

The majority of the population resides in or around the capital city of Brisbane, and along the Eastern coastline. Our Brisbane rental location is located approximately 100km south of the Sunshine Coast, and 70km north of the popular Gold Coast. Queensland also boasts several large regional centres in the tropical north including Cairns, Townsville and Mackay.

The capital city of Brisbane is a clean, liveable city with a population of approximately 1.6 million. Brisbane embraces the laidback Queensland lifestyle and offers comfortable public rest areas, beautiful parks and dedicated pedestrian and bicycle paths. The city sits alongside the Brisbane River, and South Bank provides a riverside attraction featuring 17 hectares of greenery and a large man-made lagoon, perfect for swimming during the sub-tropical summer. South Bank is the creative hub of Brisbane, and is home to the Queensland Museum, Queensland Performing Arts Centre and Queensland Art Gallery to name just a few. Those with an interest in arts and entertainment really will feel at home in Brisbane.

By taking one of our campervans or cars south of Brisbane you will find the beautiful Gold Coast, home to Surfers Paradise and kilometres of sandy white beaches. The beaches of the Gold Coast are perfect for swimming and water sports. Popular beaches are patrolled and offer year round swimming conditions. The Gold Coast is also home to a number of theme and adventure parks, with dedicated water parks and roller coasters that are sure to get the heart pumping. You can even pat a kangaroo or cuddle a koala at one of the many attractions offering the experience.

Flying nationally is accessible at a range of domestic and regional terminals scattered across the state, and there are four International airports in Queensland, located in Cairns, Townsville, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. For your convenience Campervan Village Brisbane is located near the city while also being a short drive to the freeway which will take you there in 20mins. If travelling in a group getting a taxi is the best mode of transport.

Bohemian Byron Bay really starts to buzz in summer as crowds flock to the beach from all parts of Australia and the world. There's numerous campgrounds around Byron Bay and the Gold Coast, often right next to the beach...

Getting There:

From Brisbane:
Take the Pacific Hwy due south for about 100kms. There's turnoffs for all major theme parks along the way. If you're heading to the Gold Coast, you should reach your destination in around an hour. If you're continuing through to Byron Bay, it should take you about 1hr 45mins.

Other Information:

Take caution when swimming at local beaches. Although the sea may appear calm, there can often be rips and currents which can be dangerous for inexperienced swimmers. Be sure to swim in between the Red & Yellow flags, particularly if travelling with kids.

Road Quality:
The Roads around South-East Queensland are all well-maintained & sealed. Tomewin Road on the border of QLD & NSW is one of the great windy, mountain rainforest drives. A 4WD or AWD Vehicle is not required.

There’s a heap of campgrounds along the coast. Our favourites are at Tallebudgera (on the southern Gold Coast) and Broken Head about 5mins south of Byron Bay. Be sure to book ahead if travelling over summer as these campsites are very popular.
